The Red Bull Formula Windsurfing World Championships
1-9 December 2000
IntroductionIn December 2000 the world's finest windsurfers gather in Pattaya, Thailand to decide who will be the Red Bull Formula Windsurfing World Champion. The Championships, held from 1-9th December, will be organised on behalf of IBSA by the Eastern Windsurfing Club Pattaya together with the Windsurfing Association of Thailand (WATH) in co-operation with the ISAF.
The Championships are a single discipline event with divisions for Men, Women and Masters. Men and women will race separately with a maximum of 15 races over 7 days. There is a maximum of 160 entries in the Men's fleet and there is a strict qualifying/entry procedure (see below).
This is a World Championships and a dedicated TV show for the event will be broadcast on major networks around the world (including Fox in the US, Australia and New Zealand, STAR in Asia, Sky in the UK, Canal Plus in Europe and Multipole in South America). Excitement is heightened by the International Olympic Committee's decision in November on whether "Formula" will become the Olympic standard.
Pattaya and Thailand are the hosts for the event and the local traditions of hospitality and warmth will add greatly to the event. This is the "Land of Smiles" and the Thai reputation for hospitality is well deserved. Pattaya has been established as a tourist destination for many years and all your needs off the water will be well taken care of.
During December the weather conditions are influenced by the Northeast monsoon and wind speeds are expected to be between 12 and 25 knots. The water temperature will be approximately 24C with the air temperature varies from 26 to 30C.
