Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just enter one event or do I have to enter all events?
You can enter just one event, a selection or all five. It depends on how much fun you can handle!

If Im a beginner or intermediate sailor will I feel out of my depth?
Beginners should probably spend a little more time practicing before entering competitions but intermediate sailors will feel very comfortable. The atmosphere at all the events is relaxed and the other sailors are more likely to give you a few tips than anything else and after all, competitions are a great way to accelerate up that learning curve. The event in Taiwan is a little different as it can have some fairly testing conditions and unless you are comfortable water starting and heading upwind, this event is not really for you.

How good are the competitors?
There is a wide range in standards, from intermediate "holiday sailors" to the worlds best. It is great to be on the same water as the top sailors in the sport and they spend a lot of time on the beach dispensing advice and simply sharing in the fun.

If some of the worlds best sailors compete, how can I expect to winanything?
There are different "divisions" at the events and in addition to cash prizes for the top professionals, equipment prizes for the amateurs are available. At the end of the day, a big part of the Adecco AWT is simply being there and taking part.

Should I bring my partner or family?
Absolutely these are very social events and they will have a great time. Where there are official dinners and parties special "social" tickets are offered just for this.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?
This varies by event. In Boracay and Saipan there is an extensive range of good quality gear available for rental while in Kuantan and Bintan it is recommended that you bring your own. In Penghu the situation is different still there is some gear available for rental and the race format actually includes some formula racing where board and rig are supplied.

Once Ive registered, what then?
You still need to organize accommodation and transfers. The event organizers can help and advise you here (all contacts are provided in race summaries). For Bintan you can buy an accommodation package in advance that saves you the cost of the race registration fee; for the other events you pay race registration on arrival.
